The Japanese Family

This is Week Three in our RJC Japan 101 on-line class. The theme is “Japanese Society,” and the first reading assignment in Samuel Lee’s book “Understanding Japan through the Eyes of Christian Faith” is “The Japanese Family.” There are many helpful things in this chapter. The short discussion of uchi-soto (inside and outside)  points to the family as uchi and everything else being soto.

There are many applications for this, including the importance for Christians to clearly allow Jesus to be part of the uchi.
